Post subject: Volume/Sound Control and Two .Exe Files.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsme>multimedia (more info?)

My volume control has changed its behaviour.

Yesterday I D/L three critical updates for WMP7.1 and
today an ME update 'Internet Explorer - Navigation Sound...

A first click on the speaker icon is normal. A second
almost immediately results in a flashing 'Play Sound'
message in the Task Bar, and the click on the desktop will
no longer close the control. I can close it by clicking on
the control itself and then on the desktop.

Process Explorer reveals that sndvol32.exe is in operation
for 14 secs after I close the control, after which period
I can again use the control in its normal mode - once.

I have disabled and re-enabled Volume control in Windows
Components to no effect, but in so doing StartUp Monitor
advises me that grpconv.exe is in operation. I searched,
unsuccessfully, for this file on my ME CD.

I admit to some uncertainty as to what this means.

Advice much appreciated.

Ben.

Hello,

I have learned that this response in the volume control on
WinMe and for those using WMP7.1 and 9 is perfectly
normal. I had, prior to a format/install a couple of days
ago, been using WMP7.0. I D/L WMP7.1 by chance while
setting my system back up. The critical updates for WMP
did the rest.

Ben.
